Andris Piebalgs is Adviser to the President of Latvia and former Commissioner for Energy (Barroso I) and for Development (Barroso II).
Andris Piebalgs is an experienced Latvian politician who occupied key positions in both national and European political fields.
He was instrumental in propelling EU energy issues into the centre of EU policy-making. In recognition of his leadership in European energy policy, The Economist magazine honoured him with the title "Eurocrat of the Year" in 2007. In 2009, Andris Piebalgs received the "Diamond Prize" from the Regional Chamber of Commerce in Katowice (Poland) for his work in developing a cohesive European Energy Policy for the further generations. In 2009, the Energy Efficiency Global Forum presented him the Energy Efficiency Visionary Awards for his "outstanding contributions to the advancement of energy efficiency".
Before joining the Commission, Andris Piebalgs pursued a political career, occupying strategic ministerial portfolios. He was also a high-ranking diplomat, helping Latvia to play its role in the EU.
The event's purpose is to combine expert discussions on energy security issues with high-level Ukrainian and international speakers with the charity activity to support Ukrainian Army via the
donation to the Leleka Foundation. It is a US-based non-profit organization that raises charitable funds and implements medical and social support projects in Ukraine.
All donations will be used to purchase the urgent supply of critical medical supplies for Ukraine’s defenders and civilians.
